Another one of a series of interior illustrations for Byron Preiss Visual Publications, for a book of short stories named “Chandler”.

Another image from the series of black and white illustrations I made for the book “Chandler” (see previous post)

Some years ago—before digital art was on the horizon—I was commissioned by Byron Preiss Visual Publications to do some of the interior illustrations for a book of short stories (hard boiled stuff, as you may guess) named “Chandler”. This was one of them—I’ll post more. It’s interesting looking at some of these where I had to repeat elements: what is so easily done now using Photoshop, was then done more laboriously using photocopier, X-Acto knife, and glue stick. It was good training though, in being exact, and being patient. But computers are better for that stuff, undeniably.

I recently completed work on a 294-page graphic novel. Here is the cover of the book. It’s coming out in May from HarperCollins and is titled “The Forgotten Man Graphic Edition”. It is a re-working of Amity Shlaes’ important bestseller “The Forgotten Man, A New History of the Great Depression”.

There was a lot of adaptation necessary to convert the material into more visual form. Chuck Dixon did the initial script and then Amity and I took it the rest of the way, working on the final scenes and pages. Here’s the link to Amazon.

As part of the pre-SDCC chaos, Marvel have announced the arc that follows SECRET ORIGIN ending. It’s IRON METROPOLITAN. It’s inspired by British Designer Matt Jones’ quote “A city is a battlesuit for surviving the future” and is about what happens when the Marvel Universe’s greatest designer…
